Pre-Qualifying Exam of DILG

This is not a post that shows sample tests about the DILG Pre-Qualifying Exam but rather a post of my experiences when I took the exam and twelve things to know about the DILG PQE.

I took the Pre-Qualifying Exam (PQE) today at the Baguio City National High School Library. I counted a total of 61 examinees, including me, who bravely took it unaware of its contents.

I only remembered the number of items and corresponding minutes and not a specific question of the exam inasmuch as I wanted to remember.

What is the Pre-Qualifying Exam or the DILG PQE?

  1. It was (and is) a gruelling exam that will really exhausts you, the applicant/examinee.
  2. It was (and is) a time-pressured exam which will rattle you once the proctor announce the remaining time during the examination.
  3. It is the national qualifying exam of the Department of Interior and Local Government.
  4. It is a battery of tests aimed for applicants who wants to join and become part of DILG.
  5. It is a continuous exam with a duration of two to three hours.
  6. It consists of four parts, namely:
    • Logical Reasoning Tests -
      • 55 minutes for 100 items.
    • Language Tests -
      • 3 parts.
      • Part 1, PD (Paragraph Development), 7 minutes for 10 items;
      • Part 2, RC (Reading Comprehension), 13 minutes for 22 items; and
      • Part 3, LT (Language Test), 10 minutes for 20 items.
    • Verbal Tests -
      • 3 parts.
      • Part 1, (Analogy), 6 minutes for 20 items;
      • Part 2, (Analogy, requires 2 answers), 6 minutes for 20 items; and
      • Part 3, (Mathematical Test, no choices, input your answer after solving using provided scratch paper), 10 minutes for 20 items.
    • Non-Verbal Tests -
      • 3 parts.
      • Abstract part.
      • Part 1, 3 minutes for 16 items;
      • Part 2, 3 minutes for 16 items; and
      • Part 3, 4 minutes for 18 items.
  7. It is usually administered every last Friday of the month in the DILG Central Office located in Quezon City but in our case, it was scheduled in Baguio City and a representative from DILG Central Office officiated the examination.
  8. In the case of my application, I had to write a request for endorsement to take the PQE and also indicating that it is a prerequisite for non-DILG applicants.
  9. Passing the exam does not mean you are hired already. According to the DILG employee, there may be another exam to be taken depending on the position applied for. It also depends on the assessment of the regional or district office.
  10. You must be prepared to read fast and analyze quickly for the logical reasoning test.
  11. Mathematics is still a part of this exam and you need to know how to compute because guessing will definitely not help you on this part of the exam because you need to write an answer and there are no choices to select from.
  12. Common sense and stock knowledge will help you plus lots of prayers to survive this challenging examination.
Pray. It helps.

Yes. Out of 147 examinees in our batch, only 37 passed. This was informed during the briefing after our 2-day assessment that included another examination, panel and group orals.

Hello, Jeb! I just took the PQE last September 5. And you're right! It was grueling. LOL. Btw, how long did you have to wait before the results of the PQE got released? How about the results of the 2-day assessment? Are you hired now? Thanks! :)

It depends. For my experience, I got my results on 1 July 2014. I took the exam on 14 June 2014. DILG sent me a text message informing me to get my congratulatory letter from the field office where I have applied.
As of today, I am still in waiting mode since 24-25 July 2014 since there are still no results for the 2-day assessment. So, if you have a current job, do not resign unless you have an appointment already. :D

By any chance, do you know if the non-passers in your batch were also informed of the exam results? Or were they just left hanging?

Could you please discuss their hiring process up until oath taking? Im planning to apply Dilg also.

Hi Jeb, do you have any idea on the written exam? I passed the PQE and I'm scheduled to take the Written Exam on Nov 6.

What kind of mathematical exam? Fractions, ratio and proportion?

What kind of mathematical exam? Fractions, ratio and proportion?

jeb said...

it's about them and additional questions about administrative-related duties but it really depends on the type of exam the examiners will give

jeb said...

kindly inquire at the dilg-car regarding endorsement

jeb said...

dear unknown, I think it will be too much spoonfeeding if I mentioned what type of math exam. the above tips will suffice already as a guidance or better as an advice to be prepared.

Unknown said...

i passed the PQE already.. what consists the 2 day assessment tests? written exam?

jeb said...

dear unknown, they may have changed it already because it depends on the regional office you applied at.

Unknown said...

Same unknown.. WHAT WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE?

Unknown said...

I passed the PQE admimistered here in Bicol. And now im wondering what gen.exam, group orals and panel interview be like. Any tips on the three types of assessment? Thank you. 😊😊😊

jeb said...

good for you. it really depends on the regional office plus the panel of interviewers. good luck.

i passed the pqe held in the main office last sept 23, 2016. May i asked now if what are the possible topics in the interview thank you.

jeb said...

like what i mentioned, it really depends on the office you will be deployed at and it really depends on the panel of interviewers. current events may be included in the interview plus political issues, anything is possible to be asked. good luck!

Thank you very much for sharing! 😊

Hi Sir Jeb! may I ask where will I be able to check if I passed or failed? I just saw your comment that all non-passers will be noticed thru mail, then how about the passers? I just took the exam last Mar 10 and just waiting for the result. i received a call from DILG and they asked me my mailing address what does it mean? I'm feeling quite nervous right now . :(

jeb said...

maybe they will email you...

Will they inform you if you pass or fail the 2day assessment?
